Envysion: Connect Your Video and Data…

turning them Into Actionable Insight

Overview

As Director of UX, I led the design team at Envysion, a Motorola Solutions company, in redefining how multi-site businesses use video intelligence to protect their operations and uncover growth opportunities.

Envysion integrates security footage with POS and operational data, helping business owners “see the whole picture” — not just what happened, but why.
Our goal was to transform Envysion from a legacy video viewer into an intelligent, data-driven platform that empowers decision-making across retail, restaurant, and convenience store operations.

Role: Director of UX / Design Strategy
Product: Cloud-Based Video Security Platform
Focus: Experience Design Leadership, Data Visualization, AI-Driven Insights

The Challenge

Business owners and loss-prevention teams faced three recurring pain points:

  • Fragmented Systems: Video footage, POS (Point of Sale) data, and reports existed in separate tools, making investigation and insights slow and inefficient.

  • Limited Mobility: Users wanted access to real-time video and analytics from any device — desktop, tablet, or mobile — without sacrificing security.

  • Complex Workflows: Reviewing footage and correlating it with data could take hours, costing time, profit, and operational clarity.

The challenge was clear:

Make video review simple, intelligent, and actionable — while retaining the reliability and scalability that enterprise clients expect.

Design Approach

We began by understanding how managers and loss-prevention teams used Envysion daily. The biggest challenge wasn’t data access—it was data friction. Users spent hours switching between systems to find answers.

Our solution was to simplify, unify, and humanize the experience:

Single-Pane Dashboard

We redesigned the interface into a single-pane-of-glass experience, consolidating video playback, POS events, and incident tracking.
Users could now:

  • View video synchronized with transaction data.

  • Filter footage by event type (void, refund, discount).

  • Flag and annotate incidents for internal review or compliance reporting.

Mobile-First Access

Recognizing that many users managed multiple stores remotely, we designed a fully responsive platform accessible from mobile, tablet, and desktop. Managers could quickly log in, check alerts, and review key footage — all on the go.

AI-Powered Insights

We introduced smart tagging and AI-driven search, allowing the system to:

  • Automatically detect suspicious transaction patterns.

  • Highlight anomalies such as repeated refunds or after-hours activity.

  • Suggest related footage segments for review.

Actionable Visualization

We focused on clean visual hierarchy and data visualization, helping users interpret performance trends and risk indicators without overwhelm.
Each dashboard displayed:

  • Loss prevention metrics: refunds, voids, anomalies.

  • Operational KPIs: transaction volume, compliance alerts, safety events.

  • Actionable insights: where to focus attention next.

Impact

  • 50% reduction in average investigation time per incident.

  • 30% increase in user engagement across mobile and tablet usage.

  • Stronger adoption among franchise owners due to simplified workflows.

  • Improved NPS and positive customer feedback on usability and speed.

Beyond metrics, the biggest win was cultural:

Teams began using Envysion not just to catch theft, but to find operational opportunities — improving processes, training, and service quality.

Reflection

Leading the Envysion design team reinforced a core truth: data is only valuable when it’s human-centered.
By integrating video, data, and context into one cohesive experience, we helped customers reclaim time, reduce loss, and make faster, smarter decisions.

Envysion became more than a security platform — it became an operational intelligence hub that empowered businesses to thrive.
